User research
The latest trends show that Generation Z is leading in both saving and spending habits compared to other age groups in 2023. An impressive 89% of Gen Z, those born between 1997 and 2012, reported saving money, with 75% also admitting to spending substantially on certain items, according to a Harris Poll. Their spending reflects a balance between frugality and indulgence, with preferences for spending on meaningful items while cutting back on non-essentials.
The matrix compares five money management apps across various features. Mint excels with Credit Monitoring and appeals to a Broad Audience. YNAB and Goodbudget lack Investment Tracking but offer Expense Tracking and Savings Goals. PocketGuard covers a wide range of features except Investment Tracking. Personal Capital focuses on Investment Tracking, omitting Expense Tracking and Credit Monitoring, targeting a more niche market.

The "POCKET" logo, with its ascending arrows, represents financial growth and the app's aim to boost users' savings. The blue color stands for trustworthiness in finance management.
Using the Proxima Nova and Lato font family, we have optimized the typography for this project. The intention behind using distinct fonts for text and numerals was to achieve a balanced visual impact.

The colour palette presented showcases a vibrant and diverse range of colours. It features a trustworthy blue, symbolizing reliability and strength, ideal for instilling confidence in the user interface.

Reflections
Key Takeaways
POCKET is my first application design project undertaken with peers. Collaborating on this project, I've gained invaluable insights into user experience design and the importance of empathy in understanding the user's journey.
One of the key reflections from this project was the realization that good design is not just about aesthetics but about creating a seamless and intuitive user interface that simplifies complex tasks. The challenge of presenting users with an instant visual representation of their finances taught me the significance of information architecture. Meanwhile, devising an effortless savings tracking mechanism highlighted the need for user-centric functionality.
01
Visual Money Flow
The primary challenge is to create an intuitive home screen on the POCKET app that allows users to quickly grasp their financial status, showcasing their money flow in a visual format that is both informative and easy to understand at a glance.
02
Savings Tracking
We aim to develop a seamless savings tracking feature within POCKET that simplifies the saving process for users to make it a straightforward and hassle-free experience to encourage regular saving habits.
