Overview
Dairy Drop is a mobile application that simplifies the way you shop for dairy and non-dairy products. With a few taps, users can browse through an extensive selection of milk, cheese, yogurt, and more, from classic dairy to plant-based alternatives. Dairy Drop delivers your essentials right to your doorstep.
Design Process
The Problem
There are problems to solve such as the inconvenience of multiple grocery trips, difficult dairy category navigation, inefficient delivery leading to freshness concerns, and a lack of customizable subscription options.
These challenges underscore the need for a streamlined, and user-friendly delivery service.
01
Category Navigation Difficulty
How can we design product categories to be user-friendly and easy to navigate?
02
Inflexible Delivery Scheduling
How can we offer more flexible delivery schedules that align with our customers' diverse lifestyles?
03
Limited Personalization
How can we enhance app personalization for customized order schedules?
The solution
I aim to enhance user experience and engagement with Dairy Drop by providing a subscription app for effortless dairy and non-dairy deliveries. This allows busy users to manage subscriptions, schedule deliveries, and track orders, thereby ensuring enhanced convenience, customization, and reliability.
01
Intuitive Categories
Users can easily navigate and find products with well-organized categories.
02
Order Tracking
Users can track their orders in real-time to stay updated on their delivery status.
03
Customization
Users can customize their delivery schedule and products.
The goal
The goal for Dairy Drop is to enhance the grocery shopping with a subscription app for easy dairy and non-dairy deliveries.
User research
The Comparative Matrix presents a side-by-side evaluation of dairy delivery services, comparing features across various competitors. It assesses app availability, subscription options, delivery service quality, pricing, packaging sustainability, order tracking capabilities, customer support, and social media presence.
An in-depth user interview was conducted to gather direct insights from the target audience. This one-on-one conversation offered a rich understanding of individual needs, preferences, and obstacles, which significantly influenced the app's design direction and development.
define
The persona, built on user research insights, serves as a crucial guide in my design process. It embodies key themes such as the quest for balance between quality and convenience, the importance of eco-friendly and health-conscious choices, and the challenge of integrating a busy work-life schedule. This persona informs my ideation, ensuring my design solutions align with the needs of tech-savvy, efficiency-driven consumers.
define
I created an empathy map based on the persona to gain deeper insights into user needs, which will help in designing a more user-centric service for dairy product shopping and delivery.
Ideate
Drawing from persona, the user flow is designed for affordability and flexibility. Users can quickly find family-friendly milk options and effortlessly reschedule deliveries to fit their schedules.
define
I designed a journey map to clearly outline the user's activities and feelings at each step. I deduced opportunities to refine the user experience.
define
I created an Information Architecture that enhances user experience by intuitively organizing features for efficient access and navigation.
prototype
Based on the user flow refined through research, I sketched initial layouts that balanced user needs with service functionality for intuitive and efficient interaction.
I conducted A/B testing by presenting two versions of the home screen to users. This approach enabled me to collect both qualitative feedback and quantitative data on user preferences and behaviours, which directly informed the design decisions to enhance usability.
6 out of 8 testers voted for option B in their feedback.
After the initial brainstorming and sketching, I created low/mid-fidelity wireframes by converting hand-drawn sketches into digital formats using tools such as Miro. This phase was focused on developing a structured and consistent layout.

Design solution
Based on optimized user flows and research insights, I created the final design to ensure compliance with the style guide for a smooth and intuitive experience.
Users can easily navigate and find products with well-organized and clearly labeled categories to improve their shopping experience and reduce time spent searching for items.
Users can track their orders in real-time, monitoring the journey from store to doorstep, and receiving timely updates on progress, estimated arrival, and potential delays.
Users can personalize their orders with the customization feature, selecting options and details to fit their preferences.
Reflections
As a designer, designing mobile apps for customers for the first time was a remarkable experience. It stretched my abilities and greatly deepened my understanding of research and design thinking. One of the most educational aspects was mastering the user flow. Though challenging at first, it turned into a valuable learning experience. Understanding how users navigate the app was complex at first, but it gradually became more intuitive. This journey has improved my skills, particularly in ensuring a seamless user experience, and has left me more confident in managing user flows in future projects.
01
Building Efficient Workflow
The project taught me the significance of a well-planned workflow. I learned to synchronize design stages with client deadlines, achieving a balance between speed and thoroughness.
02
Being Detail-Oriented
A detail-oriented approach was key, where I learned that the smallest design elements can have a substantial impact on usability and user satisfaction.
03
Emphasizing Research
Research was pivotal, providing a foundation for informed design choices. Engaging with users, exploring market trends, and iterating based on feedback were integral practices that guided the app's development, ensuring it resonated well with the target audience.
